The ABJA is sponsoring a Certified Bankruptcy Assistant (CBA) Seminar and Exam on October 18 & 19, 2016, along with a Professional Skills Seminar on October 20 & 21, in beautiful Albuquerque, NM. Attached are flyers describing the seminars.

One of the primary objectives of the ABJA is the development of educational programs for our members, bankruptcy court staff, and the bankruptcy legal community. To that end, our Continuing Education Committee developed the CBA Program for secretaries, Clerk's Office staff, and others in the bankruptcy legal profession to become certified as a bankruptcy assistant.

The two-day certification program includes training workshops with an exam administered at the end of each day. The exam has four sections, each consisting of 25-50 questions, on grammar usage and writing, the Bankruptcy Code and Rules, ethics, and research and legal citation. The University of New Orleans, numerous judges, professionals, and practitioners in the bankruptcy field, in cooperation with the ABJA, developed a study guide that is provided to registered participants in advance of the program.

Presenters at this year's program are top-notch, including: The Honorable David Thuma, Bankruptcy Judge from Albuquerque; the Honorable Robert H. Jacobvitz, Chief Bankruptcy Judge from Albuquerque; the Honorable Douglas D. Dodd, Chief Bankruptcy Judge from Baton Rouge; and Attorney Edward Mazel from Albuquerque.

With the CBA title comes the responsibility to maintain a high degree of knowledge and proficiency in the bankruptcy field by obtaining a minimum of .6 Continuing Education Units (which is equivalent to 6 classroom hours) every two years to maintain certification. More info is available at http://www.abja.org/content/certified-bankruptcy-assistants-cba-program.

In conjunction with the CBA program, the ABJA is sponsoring a Professional Skills Seminar on October 20 & 21. As you can see from the attached flyer, we have been fortunate to secure excellent speakers to present various interesting topics.
